HOW TO FRAME A PICTURE : A list of wall friendly ideas
You ordered an Happy Lazuly artwork or you just received a lovely personalised gift form a thoughtful friend or family member, but let’s face it - You don’t know how to frame your picture !
What size to choose ? What mount to opt for ? How to fit it in your home design ? Those are all the questions you ask yourself. It can be difficult to make a choice when it comes to choose the perfect print frame. If you are struggling, no worries, I am here to help ! You’ll find here a list of budget and wall friendly framing ideas, just for you !
GET or DIY Wooden hangers
Wooden hangers are a such great way to frame any prints, especially in a nursery. It will give a pretty and elegant finish to your painting. You can easily do one yourself if you are into DIY, or you can buy it if easier for you.
If you want, I even have a few which I sell during markets ! Those are the ones you can see in my products photos. If you can’t visit me during one of those events, simply ask and I will be more than happy to supply one for you ! My wooden hangers are magnetic, made of untreated Australian light wood and will suit most decors. You’ll also be able to find plenty of different colours and wood tones to perfectly match your decor.
What I love
I love the fact they are lightweight so they can be installed everywhere even in rentals. You could put the picture you choose near the cradle or even better near the baby changing table ! To keep baby occupied.
TIP
If you received a rolled artwork, please lay it flat for a couple of days ! I know you don’t want to wait but it will help the print to be back to its best shape.
CHOOSE AN IKEA FRAME
I have to say, I absolutely love Ikea HOVSTA frames. They are lightweight due to the front protection made of plexiglass, so they can be installed on any walls. There is no risk for the kids to interact with the paintings and learn from it ! Plus they are gender neutral and great for kids room and playroom with a modern, natural or scandi decor.
I am always told my painting becomes a bedtime ritual ! A time to look and learn before falling asleep and make the sweetest dreams ! You might love them too, but my paintings are for little ones eyes first, therefore don’t hesitate to install the painting at kids eyesight.
PRINT SIZE GUIDE
Ikea frames size ratio are a bit peculiar ! But you know what ? To make it easy for you, I offer “ikea size” prints which goes in Ikea frames without mount.
Alternatively you can use normal “A size” poster and use the mount provided.

TIP
Be quick and work on a clean surface when you remove the plexiglass protection to put your picture in. It is electrostatic and therefore attracts dust and cat hair (I can tell you from experience !).

OPT FOR LAMINATING
I don’t offer this service myself as I don’t have the equipment yet but any local printing shop will be able to laminate your picture for you. It is one of my dear client’s idea and I found it great so happy to share it with you ! Once again this is a perfect way for your kids to interact with the painting, to bring it along with them around, asking questions and learning at their own pace.
TIP
Laminated prints can also be used as a place mats or desk mat and evolve with your kids ! Like I love to say, it is always a good time to learn.
PROFESSIONALLY FRAME A PICTURE
If your walls and budget are strong enough, professional framing is a fabulous option . Professional framers use an anti-reflective and anti-glare glass with exceptional finishes ! So don’t hesitate to contact your local framer, he would have so many to choose from, and will help you to find the perfect combination of frame and mount to suit your unique decor ! Locally made is the best !

Professional framing will protect your artwork from the Australian sun and dust and therefore is a perfect option for Fine Art Print and limited edition artworks.
TIP
Marie-louise or mounts don’t have to be white ! A colourful mount is a great way to give your artwork more personality and character.
THINK UPCYCLING !
Did you know that upcycling also stands for creative reuse ! So don’t hesitate to go to your local op shop (Salvos, Vinnies…) to find a framing treasure ! Alternatively, you can reuse a frame you already have. It is always good to have a change of scenery at home, and I have to say I do love it, I move everything all around every couple of months. Switching artworks and keeping the frames is a great way to change decor, for matching seasons or holidays for example !
